Unto us a Child is Born

10 Minute Daily Retreat - Read the Daily Gospel with a prayerful heart.
By Melanie Edwards (No.180)

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew 1:18-24

Babies make a difference. Have you ever witnessed a mother or father with their newborn child? Or an aunt, uncle, cousin, friend, brother or sister for that matter?

Often you see them gazing at the new child with awe and wonder, so aware of the precious gift they have received.

Imagine yourself holding the baby Jesus – gaze at him and notice the way he looks at you.

Babies change our lives. They bring freshness and vitality, and can often help us to remember what really matters.

How will the baby Jesus change your life this Christmas?

Babies are dependent on their parents for everything. They enjoy constant close contact with those who love them.

In a kind of reversal, how can you become more dependent on Jesus, who is Emmanuel, God-with-us?
