Close your eyes, hang on...or let go?

10 Minute Daily Retreat - Read the Daily Gospel with a prayerful heart.
By Sr Melanie Edwards MGL Sister

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke 17:26-37
33 Those who try to make their life secure will lose it, but those who lose their life will keep it.

Riding a roller-coaster is an exhilarating experience, but there are two kinds of riders.
The first hangs on, closes their eyes and seeks to make themselves secure in every kind of way.
The second opens their eyes, raises their hands in the air and enjoys every moment, knowing the ride operator has their security in the forefront of his mind.
Life can be a bit like a roller-coaster.
We can try to make ourselves as secure as possible, but perhaps we are so busy hanging on to control that we miss what God wants to show or give us.
Those who try to make their life secure will lose it.
Or we can leave our hands open and free to receive whatever God wants to give to us. This is frightening because we no longer have control, but in the end it leads to a far greater experience of life than we could ever imagine or gain for ourselves.

Those who lose their life will keep it

Which way do you ride the rollercoaster of life?

What might God be asking you to let go of so that you can enjoy the ride of your life?
