A Chameleon can change. So can we.

10 Minute Daily Retreat - Read the Daily Gospel with a prayerful heart.
By Susanne Timpani (No.139)

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark 6:7-13
And he went about among the villages teaching. And he called to him the twelve, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics.

And he said to them, "Where you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. And if any place will not receive you and they refuse to hear you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them."

So they went out and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them.

When you go to work, you put on your uniform or appropriate attire, switch your personal mobile off and give the job your full attention. Jesus tells the disciples to travel light so that their focus was not on themselves but the job.

Their primary role, according to the Gospel message today, was to invite people to change their mind about their life. Travelling without baggage was the first hint that the change of mind message included letting go of excess burdens.

What do we need to change our minds about? Am I carrying the excess baggage of anxiety; to the point that I can't concentrate on my life's ministry? Are there priorities in my life that I still haven't changed my mind about?

Have family, friends, church community asked me to do something that is inconvenient so I ignore it? If we are too busy, it is a good sign there is something we need to change our minds about.

Regardless of our good intentions to change, old habits die-hard. With their message of repentance, the disciples also brought the gift of healing.

This Christian message is astounding. The ideals are high. So too is the power of grace, mercy and healing to help us  make and sustain our change of mind.
