The contest of the North Wind and the Sun

10 Minute Daily Retreat - Read the Daily Gospel with a prayerful heart.
By Susanne Timpani and Glenn D’Souza (No.88)
'And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.' (Ephesians 4:32)

Do you remember the fable of 'The North Wind and the Sun'?

Both elements claim they have the strength to take the coat off a man walking below. The North Wind used great strength and the Sun used the strength of gentleness. The man fought against the wind, pulling his coat tighter around him. Yet when the sun shone hot and bright he removed his coat.

When someone upsets us how easy it is to retaliate with hostility and rejection. In Glenn D’Souza’s clip today, we hear how Jesus responds to our wrongdoing; with mercy and kindness. Jesus is wise. There is a greater chance of our repentance when we experience God’s kindness and not His rejection.

By His grace may we go out and do the same.
