Sunday Reflection (no.2)
(Susanne Timpani)
‘Jesus, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?'

Anyone who knows anything about God knows the answer to this question; to love.
But what has more value? To love God, or to love each other?
Jesus’ response shows us that you can’t have one without the other. The commandment to love comes as a pair.

‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the greatest and the first command-ment.
The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself.
On the one hand we are commanded to love God with every inch of our being. On the other we are commanded to love each other as much as we love ourselves.

Morgue File

Yet is it even humanly possible to love God? And what if we don’t love ourselves? The quality of our love for anyone else is going to be questionable.

The key has to be this:  ‘We love God because He first loved us.’ (1 John 4:19)

Let's pray along with the Ephesians:
'for the grace to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for us. (Ephesians 3:18)

It’s only then that we can begin to obey the first two commandments.
