God's Gifts

10 Minute Daily Retreat (no. 7)

Today Melanie Edwards shares one of her favourite scriptures along with a reflection.

'Many of us have probably seen a small child get excited in a lolly shop. Surrounded by so many delicious treats of varying colours, sizes, shapes and flavours, the child cannot help but be amazed by all the sugary goodness they can see.
In a similar way, God constantly surrounds us with his goodness, showering gifts of all descriptions upon us;  the warm sunshine, a joyful encounter with a friend, a moment in prayer, or an unexpected surprise.

Just as the child in the lolly shop delights in what they see, we too are invited to recognise and delight in the abundant and sometimes incomprehensible ways God pours out his love.

‘No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him.’ (1 Corinthians 2:9)

These gifts are but a small glimpse of the love of God that we will experience one day in heaven.
In this time of quiet, ask God to show you the many gifts He constantly gives to you. Focusing on His giving is a powerful way in which our relationship with God can go deeper.'
